The Weeknd headlined day one Coachella 2018, breaking out hits from throughout his career, as well as debuting some tracks from his recent chart-topping EP My Dear Melancholy,. “Wasted Times,” “Hurt You” and Privilege” were among the selections from the new material, but the highlight came with the live incarnation emotional opener “Call Out My Name.” Performed third-to-last in the set, Abel delivered a stripped-down take on the song, accompanied solely by a guitar. His vulnerable vocal performance was applauded by fans. “Ok.. the live version is 100x better. You can truly feel the amount passion and emotion Abel brings to these lyrics.. absolutely breathtaking,” wrote one user on Twitter. Another attributed the heartfelt performance to Abel’s recent breakup, a subject he seems to be pretty clearly addressing on the song: “Selena Gomez] really broke this mans heart.”
