In the mid-2000s, Houston’s hip-hop scene exploded into the mainstream, with Paul Wall right in the middle of it on the strength of his features on Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin’” and Kanye West’s “Drive Slow,” his own massive single “Sittin’ Sidewayz” and his debut album The People’s Champ. Over the past 10 years, the H-Town MC has been steadily grinding, both with his music and with his work as a businessman running a custom jewelry shop that outfits much of his city with Paul Wall’s signature grills. But he’s also been heavily involved in one of Houston’s most distinctive traditions, slab culture, restoring old school whips back to their former glory. Today, following up on his last release, 2014′s Po’ Up Poet, Paul Wall announces a new album dedicated to that tradition, titled slab god, due out Sept. 25 on Paul Wall Music/EMPIRE.The album is lengthy at 17 tracks and counts 18 guests, ranging from Snoop Dogg to Curren$y to Trae Tha Truth to Devin The Dude to Lil Keke and plenty more. Check out Wall’s first single, the album opener “Swangin’ In The Rain,” above, check out the full tracklist below and pre-order the album via iTunes right here.
