When the N.W.A. biopic was announced, it seemed like a pipe dream. Production had a half-dozen false starts, and when it was finally rolling for good, Suge Knight ran over two men with his truck–allegedly over a dispute that started on the set. Not exactly a harbinger of good things to come. But Straight Outta Compton opened last month to rave reviews and a phenomenal run at the box office. (Of course, there was also the understandable concern about the exclusion of Dr. Dre’s domestic violence incidents with Dee Barnes, Michel’le and others.) Long story short: the flick did so well that studios and creative teams are lining up to make the next hip-hop biopic. It was recently reported that the Compton sequel could come in the form of a movie about Tha Dogg Pound; while unaffiliated with the N.W.A. movie’s producers, a new project has cropped up to satisfy exactly that need.According to TMZ, principal photography for Dogg Pound 4 Life has begun. Apparently, Daz Dillinger put together a cast and shot a scene depicting 2Pac’s sessions for “Ambitionz az a Ridah” and “I Ain’t Mad Atcha,” both of which would appear on All Eyez On Me, the double-disc opus that would be the only thing he dropped on Death Row while he was alive. Dr. Dre’s son Curtis will play his father, with Reggie Noble (not that Reggie Noble) as Suge Knight, Melvin Jackson Jr. from The Wire as Kurupt, Azad Arnaud as Daz, DaDa as 2Pac and more. At press time, no details about release or distribution were available.
