The artist explains the meaning behind the lovelorn visual.

In what looks like a montage found-footage video clips, Supa Bwe delivers the visual to his latest single, “I Hate You.” The track comes from his recently released project titled “Just Thank You,” a record that includes features from fellow artists Chance The Rapper, Rexx Life Raj, Duffle Bag Buru, and Dounia.

Supa Bwe explained the meaning behind the Lonewolf-directed visual to Highsnobiety in an email by writing, “‘I Hate You’ is about the struggles love and the duality that lies within loving someone you shouldn’t. I made the beat to ‘I Hate You’ in 2015 but wasn’t able to fully articulate the song until this past year. This song is very personal to me. The video represents a man who has everything, but nothing at the same time. The praying mantis scene where the female eats the male represents the song and the nature the relationship I’m speaking on.”

Quotable Lyrics

Got a flight at 9 a.m., I’m feelin’ myself
(Feelin’ myself, feelin’ myself)
Baby girl, come slide by if you ain’t doin’ shit else
(Feelin’ myself, feelin’ myself)
I’m lonely and the company helps
I need it but I hate you
Baby girl, come slide by if you ain’t doin’ shit else
(Feelin’ myself, feelin’ myself)
